Combined Sports Car Clubs Trolley Derby
27 May 1989
The Chelsea Sugar Refinery has a great derby hill that has been used by Hot Rod and Sports Car clubs for some excellent derbies.
They used all of the hill, the finish line being just before the bridge which has a concrete median strip.  Rolling start and no ramp.
All trolleys were weighed as they had an 80 kg limit.

Aston Martin Club

Sunbeam Club

Porsche Club

Alfa Romeo Club

Speeds in excess of 70 kph around the armco

A fishbone style tow rope was used to get the trolleys back up the hill.
No. 20 is a Buggati Club entry.

Sunbeam Club
'Buster' Boyd took first prize, a pen holder with a pen that didn't work.

Second prize was better, a 'No Spill No Slide'  mug went to another
Sunbeam Club entry.

In this photo it is being chased down the hill by a Jaguar to get the speed,
76 kph before the driver lost his nerve and touched the brakes before the armco.  The trolley did not handle well and in the final the driver did not use any brakes and  had to use full opposite lock and all of the road to get around the corner.
