The New Zealand Trolley
Derby
Organisation
Choice
of Day
Long weekends or school holidays
appear to lower the number of entries.
Holding a derby after a
holiday gives plenty of time for constructors to get their act together.
Time
of Day
Most seem to start scrutineering
at 8.00 - 9.00 am with racing one hour later. If possible, have a
lunch break. This gives time to repair shattered nerves and trolleys
and to catch up with old aquaintances and make some new ones.
Get the road closed for long
enough to have a relaxed atmosphere for the racing. Extra time can
be used for grudge matches etc.
A Dunedin derby has the road
closed from 4.00pm - 9.00 pm on a weekday. This would be great in
summer.
Promotion
Advertise in local papers, club
magazines, radio, this website, your community websites.
Talk a school art teacher
into having a class make posters for shop windows, school notice boards
etc.
Neighbouring towns may not
have their own trolley derby and posters to their schools may be much appreciated.
Some organisers keep their
entry forms and either phone up, or mail an entry form when the next derby
date is confirmed.
This is very personal and
is very encouraging for the kids.
