The spirit of the specifications means nothing to the constructor. It is the wording that is all important as that is all he has to go by. He does not have a direct line into the organisers heads.
If a trolley passes the wording of the specifications it must be passed.
If a trolley does not pass the wording of the specifications it must not be passed.
Protective clothing specified must be presented at scrutineering.
Controversial specifications.
If there is any controversy
over the wording of the specifications, the person who wrote them should
not be consulted. Instead, ask if there is a lawyer, English teacher
or journalist available to decipher it.
If there is any doubt, the
trolley must be passed, as it is the wording of the specifications, not
the trolley, that has failed under scrutineering. Make a note to
fix the specifications for next year's derby and get on with having fun
at this one.
